AE-FUNAI Developmental Levy: Students Move For Reduction Of Levy.

Since the inception of the present governing council of the Student Union Government of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo, Ebonyi State,  there has been series of approach made to change some unfavourity in fees paid to the school.

In an online forum yesterday, 3/10/2018 with the SUG President, SUG Director Of Information and SUG Senate President, the issue of developmental levy (#50,000 and #5,000 for Freshmen and Returning Students respectively) which was formally called "Security Levy" was addressed.

The students demanded to see the acclaimed parents who came together to agree on 50,000 naira Security/Developmental Levy. The SUG Director Of Information, Comr. Akani Paul Otu said that the School Management has refused to introduce the Executive Council of the Parents Forum to them or introduce them to the Executive Council of the Parents Forum. He also said that the effort to make the School Management do so is still in place.

On the 50,000 naira Developmental Levy, many suggestions were made. Some students suggested that the levy should be scrapped terming it "unnecessary exploitation in this bad economic state". Some students suggested that if the fee cannot be scrapped then it should be reduced to 5,000 naira, some suggested 10,000 naira, some also suggested 30,000 naira while others suggested 20,000 naira. Above all, the so called fee was suggested to be paid once by Freshmen as a one time payment. Meaning, once paid it shouldn't be refixed to 5,000 naira or any amount in the subsequent levels. After taking the highest upvote for the fee to be reduced to, the students agreed to seek the fee to be reduced to 20,000 naira as a one time payment.

The SUG Senate President, Distinguished Jerry Udom on behalf of the SUG President, Comr. Njoku Francis thanked all students for their contribution to the forum, promising to present their suggestions to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Chief Chinedu Nwajiuba (Eze Mmuta Gburugburu).

The forum which started by 9:00Pm ended by 10:45Pm.
