Trouble To Hit Uber Services As Lagos State Government Moves To Disrupt Their Activities

Recall that weeks ago the Lagos State Government placed restriction on Motorcycles and Tricycles (Keke Na Pep) in six local governments of the state, which include; Apapa, Ikeja, Surulere, Eti Osa, Lagos Island, and Lagos Mainland.

Just recently, we got reports that the government may move their searchlight towards Uber drivers and their likes. An official of the Lagos State Vehicle Investigation Service told The Guardian on Thursday that the state has started enforcing necessary laws on drivers of ride-hailing platforms such as Uber.

He also said that commercial vehicle drivers and those on Uber and other ride-hailing platforms must be certified by the Lagos Drivers’ Institute before they can operate in the state.
Moreover, drivers on ride-hailing platforms must have hackney permits. This means they have to change their vehicle registration to commercial.
Some Uber Drivers has however been impounded once or twice on the contest of not being duly registered. People like Moses Ndubuisi who paid 60,000 Naira into the government's account before his car could be released to him, as reported by The Guardian.

As it stands, the Uber Company hasn't said any convincing words to the Drivers who fell victim to the government new policies.
