Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, Xiaomi Join Forces Against Google Playstore For Android

Following its ban by the US government, Huawei has been nursing the idea of an android alternative for Google's Play Store. However, a recent report from REUTERS says that Huawei, Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi have plans of making an alternative to Google Play Store.

As it stands today, the Google Play Store can’t be used in China along with other Google applications and services.

According to REUTERS report, the top-four leading telephone giants in China are making plans to develop an Android App Store that will pose a competition for the Google Play Store.

However, this alliance will not stop the individual companies from selling their own app stores. The proposed App Store will give developers access to making a single upload into four different app stores. It will also support Music, Movies and Games.

The Global Developer Service Alliance (GDSA) is expected to launch in March, but may be delayed due to the outbreak of the Corona Virus.

According to Nicole Peng, the VP of Mobility at Canalys, "By forming this alliance each company will be looking to leverage the others’ advantages in different regions, with Xiaomi’s strong user base in India, Vivo and Oppo in Southeast Asia, and Huawei in Europe. Secondly, it’s to start to build some more negotiation power against Google.
The execution is difficult as its hard to say which company is pulling more weight and investing more in it. We haven’t seen the alliance model work well in the past".

Once launched, the platform will be available in nine (9) countries including China, India, Indonesia, and Russia.
